Creating Windows VMs
In the NETWAYS Cloud, you can also create Windows VMs. A list of available Windows images can be found under Available Images.
Creating Windows VMs in the Cloud Console
Windows VMs can be created in the Cloud Console. The process is as follows:
- Log in at console.nws.netways.de.
- Select the desired OpenStack project (top left).
- Navigate to Compute > Instances and click Create Instance.
- Configure the Windows VM:
- Choose a suitable Specification.
- Choose the desired (Windows) Image.
- Configure the User and Password.
This setting is a requirement set by the cloud console and doesn't have any effect on the configuration of the Windows VM in the NETWAYS Cloud.
- Confirm the configuration by clicking Confirm.
Selecting the right Compute Flavor
Since Windows VMs have higher resource requirements than, e.g., Linux VMs, not all available Compute Flavors are compatible with Windows VMs. The minimum requirements for each selectable Windows image are noted in the creation dialog, so you can choose a suitable Compute Flavor.
Otherwise, the VM creation will fail at the end of the dialog with a corresponding error message.
After creating a Windows VM, it will be provisioned and ready to use shortly after.
First Login to a Windows VM
After creating a Windows VM, you can connect to it via the Cloud Console:
- Log in at console.nws.netways.de.
- Navigate to Compute > Instances.
- Select the created VM.
- Click Console (top right).
A new browser window opens with a VNC console through which the Windows VM can be used. First, you should log in with the Administrator user and set a new password.
